Marine Educator / Biologist (Seychelles 2025)
Are you an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and guest-focused person then come and join our team as a WiseOceans Marine Biologist / Educator based at a prestigious luxury resort in Seychelles
We are looking for someone who is highly motivated to drive progress of a new project and take the lead in developing the programme, with the confidence to network and establish a positive relationship with the partner resort and local organisations and community.
Tasks and duties
1) Guest engagement and education
• Deliver and generate guest-interest in marine and terrestrial conservation focused guest activities and experiences.
• Deliver and generate guest-interest in regular marine, conservation and sustainability talks and presentations
• Conduct guided snorkels and other marine activities – the guests can enjoy being joined in the water by a Marine Educator who will identify marine life for the guests and provide extra information to enhance their in-water experience
• Be based at the “Discovery Centre” and be on hand to discuss with guests a wide range of marine, terrestrial and conservation topics
• Deliver fun and educational sessions on with the resort Kids Club
• Write regular blog posts, social media content, blogs and articles
• Attend or host evening events with the guests, to discuss marine life and promote the conservation, sustainability and education activities of WiseOceans and the resort
2) Resort team member and local community engagement and education
• Engage resort staff in marine education and conservation via a variety of means, bringing new ideas to the table to increase internal awareness of marine life
• Develop and deliver community outreach events and activities
3) Science and Research
• Scientific research activities including, but not limited to, coral reef monitoring, coral predator monitoring and control, and incidental megafauna sightings records
• Working on reef restoration project, including:
• Coral nursery maintenance
• Coral propagation
• Guest engagement on reef restoration
• Project development
4) Other
• Development of the Marine Discovery Programme
• General administration including, but not limited to, completing spreadsheets for reporting purposes, data entry and bill payment processing
• Collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, content for display on noticeboards, marine life guides, signs and other interpretation, content for Resort guides and schedules, and other literature for guests
• Communications including, but not limited to, emails to resort management and all staff, attending and participating in resort staff meetings and sending reports to resort and WiseOceans management
You MUST be:
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- PADI Rescue Diver or above / equivalent and First aid trained
- Essential Educated to degree level in a relevant subject
Experience and skills required
- Experience with coral propagation / reef restoration
- Experience of working in a luxury resort
- Excellent snorkelling skills including the ability to free dive to 5m comfortably
- Good knowledge of tropical marine life and understanding of marine conservation globally
- Experiance and knowledge of Seychelles is prefered
- A minimum of one years experience in marine life monitoring (with a preference for marine megafauna and tropical marine species)
- A minimum one years’s experience conducting underwater surveys (particular interest in coral reef monitoring and habitat mapping
- Experience in an educating role
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Confident public speaker with experience giving presentations to a range of audiences
- Self-motivated and outgoing, excellent people skills
- Ability to independently as part of a global, remotely operating team
- 24 month consultant contract, inclusive of a 90-day probation period with a possibility for extension

- Public liability insurance is provided by WiseOceans. It would be your own responsibility to have travel insurance, personal accident and emergency medical cover.
- A working of 39 hours, with days off to be arranged in line with Resort schedule.

- Equipment – expected to have own laptop, smartphone, mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit, in-water watch
